Project Aloha

Learning Process

1. Challenges

The work on the website for the “Aloha” project was characterized by exciting but also demanding challenges. Initially, the focus was on designing a website that was both functional and visually appealing. It was particularly difficult to create a strong tropical vibe that would immediately convey the feeling of Hawaii, coconuts and palm trees.

Also, the goal of designing a highly stylized one-page website that simultaneously encourages people to donate to the planting of new palm trees required a clear understanding of design principles and user experience (UX).

Technically, the implementation of micro-animations such as hover and scroll effects posed a hurdle, as these had to be precisely coordinated with the tropical design. Another obstacle was the question of how to effectively appeal to visitors' emotions through colors, shapes and animations. Finally, I also wanted to ensure that the website worked just as well on mobile devices as it did on desktop.

2. Solutions

To overcome these challenges, I first familiarized myself intensively with the Figma design software. Using Figma plugins to create and customize complex designs was particularly helpful. I also explored design trends that support the tropical style, such as, warm sand colors and organic shapes.

To emphasize the tropical vibe, I incorporated micro animations such as hover effects that show small movements when hovering over buttons, as well as smooth scrolling effects that provide a pleasant experience for visitors. I made sure that these animations drew attention to the donation function without overwhelming users.

I also created mockups and gathered feedback from my friend to make sure the website met her expectations. Test runs on different devices helped me to optimize the site for all platforms.

3. Results

The result of my work is an appealing one-page website that conveys the tropical theme in an authentic and inviting way. The mixture of bold colors, stylized shapes and targeted animations creates a coherent overall picture that immerses visitors directly in the atmosphere of Hawaii.

The micro-animations and scroll effects give the site a modern and dynamic touch that not only impresses visually, but also promotes interactivity. Particularly successful was the integration of the donation function, which was highlighted by visual accents and is easy to use. During the project I gained valuable knowledge in Figma and the implementation of animations. I learned the importance of feedback and how iterative design processes can increase the quality of a project. I also realized how crucial it is to formulate a clear visual message to effectively reach the target audience. Through this project, I not only expanded my technical skills, but also gained a deeper understanding of the connection between design, functionality and emotional impact.
